One of our dedicated Baristas in our Pyrmont Support Centre ☕ We sat down with Caleb to talk about his career journey and why he loves working at Hanes:Q: How did you get your job at Hanes?A: AimBig Employment helped me on my job search. I've had two other barista roles previously before getting my current role at Hanes. Q: How did you find the recruitment and onboarding process?A: Everyone was really helpful, I transitioned into the role very easily and felt very welcome. I was given a tour of the office and got to help figure out a good spot for the coffee machine with the support of my job coach. Overall the process was quick and easy which I really liked. Q: What's your favourite part about your role and working at Hanes?A: Getting to meet and talk to lots of new people all the time. I like making coffees for the friends I've made and get to hear about their day-to-day. I've also enjoyed having the chance to set up systems and routines that work for me in my role, I feel like my own boss a little bit!Q: Do you have any advice for anyone with a disability who's starting a new job?A: Be happy and open to feedback, I always ask if anything I'm doing can be improved so I can do the best job possible. #beingoodcompany #goodpeople #goodimpact #goodcareers

I don’t think people who work in hospitality and retail get enough hype.This weekend I completed a 9 hour plate waiting and catering shift for a large wedding with over 100 guests. On your feet for 9 hours, serving food, pouring wine, navigating demands and requests by guests, going on side quests to find water bowls for dogs, washing up, carrying food and large boxes up and down stairs, tidying smashed and disgarded glasses, polishing over 300 glasses.... The list could go on forever. 🔁All I want to say is working in hospitalty is bloody hard but so rewarding. 💭I sparked conversation with a number of guests and it was really wonderful to hear that they were enjoying themselves and having a great time. Makes the huge blisters worth it. I absolutely loved my retail job with Sweaty Betty and would jump at the opportunity to work with such a supportive team again in a heartbeat. 💜Working on the Sweaty Betty floor, I learnt: 🤍 to communicate with a range of people🤍make personal reccomendations based on my product knowledge🤍learnt everything there is to know about leggings🤍be organised in the stock room and precise when stocking the store floor🤍work as a team to manage store operations🤍provide excellent customer service- you never know when a mystery shopper will walk through the door! After being called to work in Bristol to support the team after their staff had fallen ill. 🫶Working for a company like Sweaty Betty where i can combine my passion for sport, people and branding is a dream✨Basically my point is, working in these jobs are amazing for character building, developing strong communication skills and helping you work out what kind of people and industries you want to work with in the future. 💪Sometimes your interactions with people are not great but most of the time there are. So be kind! When I was 14 I got my first job scooping ice cream at Baskin Robins. (Hi Amanda Sandusky)When I was 16 I was sent to residential treatment for 11 months, obviously I wasn’t working. When I was 17 I started as a key holder at Lush in Valley Fair mall (the biggest mall in Silicon Valley). (Hi Danyelle Horrillo)A few months in I was recruited to be the assistant store manager at White House Black Market. (Hi Karyssa Miller)But sales fell when I left Lush.So I was hired back on as the store manager of Lush at 18 years old. I worked 10 hour days 5 days a week, and went to school for 12 hours a day for 2 days per week. I share this because when I slipped at 16, I could have let it all fall, but I didn’t. I got up and kept going. Only a few months after I took over as Store Manager at Lush we were ranked top 5 Lush stores in the US. If you look at my job history, Lush isn’t even on there, as it was so long ago. But the lessons I learned while working there, have carried with me for years.One being: Don’t let yesterday define today. The best lesson: It’s all about the people you work with because the job ends, as they all do. But the co-workers who graduate to be friends are the real bonuses.
